A Message from your Conference Convenors:

After a number of years without gathering in person to enjoy our  Sydney International Storytelling Conference due to Covid, the Australian Storytellers are once again looking forward to welcoming storytellers from around the world to join in with the celebration, education, networking, and playfulness that takes place at the 'Weaving Stories Together - Sydney International Storytelling Conference'  June 2-4, 2023. The theme for this year is ‘Giving Voice to Our Stories’

We have previously welcomed people from countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australasia, the Pacific Islands, and the Americas.

Our conference highlights the power of oral storytelling, fosters cultural exchange, and showcases the practical application of storytelling across diverse settings. We strive to provide a balanced mix of performance opportunities and educational workshops that facilitate skills development.

With different languages and cultures, presenters and participants come together to share ideas, skills, customs and traditions to explore and be entertained by the art of Oral Storytelling.

We are happy to offer a special deal for the 2023 Conference.

Because we have had to cancel the conference for the last 3 years, The committee has decided that although costs have risen over that time we will offer the conference at the 2020 Rates. Not only that - we will absorb the booking fees to make this conference more accessible and attractive to those who wish to participate. This will be the best year to attend with such a good deal on offer.

But there is more!

For our overseas delegates, we offer an incredible discount of $200 off the full fee. This would assist all those who have international travel. Where else would you receive such an offer? With this special rate, we are extending welcoming hospitality to our International visitors.

What do the fees cover?

The fee to attend the full conference  Friday 2nd June 2023 - 7.30pm - Sunday 4th June 4.30pm - includes Friday night Soiree-food and entertainment, All the conference program of workshops and concerts, Lunches and morning teas, and the Official Conference Dinner.

*Accommodation and breakfast are not included and bookings are made directly with the venue where there is excellent on-site accommodation.

Keynote Storyteller - Noa Baum

Noa Baum is an internationally acclaimed storyteller, author, and coach. Born and raised in Jerusalem, Noa now lives in Maryland USA. She specialises in using storytelling to promote healing and peace. Through her unique blend of performance art and workshops, Noa emphasises the power of narrative to bridge divides of identity and she enables people to give voice to their own stories. 

Noa has performed and presented at National and International Storytelling Festivals on different continents, Theatres, Educational Institiutions, Government Ministries and Departments, Seminaries, Financial Institutions, Arts Centres and a variety of places where people have been captivated by her warm authenticity and impeccable timing.

Julie Oyegun, Director, World Bank Group, Diversity Programs wrote that “Noa uses her personal experience, exceptional talent, and nationality to convey the intense politics of diversity, while keeping us connected to our hearts and humanity.”

Noa is the author of the award-winning memoir A Land Twice Promised and a picture book How the Birds Became Friends.

Featured Presenter - Jodi Edwards

Dr. Jodi Edwards is a respected Yuin/Dharawal Custodian, who has dedicated her life to Community, Culture, Education and Language, connecting with and forming local communities and contributing to Aboriginal Education across NSW.

She shares her cultural knowledges via stories. Her stories combine the Dreaming, and Culture learnings of campfires, Country and waterways. 

She has a PhD in Traditional Aboriginal Pedagogies, a Masters in Language Education and a Graduate Diploma in Natural Cultural Resource Management which also informs her work. She has done fascinating research on the continuity of culture in the Yuin and Dharawal Nations in the areas of Language, Performance, Possum Skin Cloaks and Fishing.

Dr Edwards was named 2022 Shellharbour Woman of the Year and Illawarra Regional NAIDOC Aboriginal Community Person of the Year for her Language and Cultural work.This year she has been nominated as a finalist in the 2023 NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year Award

Looking Forward To June 2023

Sydney International Storytelling Conference June 2-4, 2023

This biennial conference draws participants, presenters and performers from all Australian States and territories as well as international countries. The conference program has a balance of performances and educational workshops to promote cultural exchange and develop the art, skills and application of Storytelling in a wide context of settings.


Presently, it is the only International Conference held in Australia that has a main focus on the tradition and practice of Oral Storytelling. The Australian Storytelling Guild (NSW) who are the organisers and hosts of the conference are committed to preserving and promoting this significant art form and its relevance within many areas of education, health, welfare and artistic performance.
