“That reminds me of a time when…”:

Finding, crafting & telling personal stories

Presented by NSW Storytelling Guild

Mark Twain was right -- there’s nothing more engaging than a personal story, well-told. Somehow these stories are simply captivating -- they sweep us up, take us along on the journey, let us try on someone else’s life and learn from it.  And if we are especially fortunate, we get taken on an emotional experience that takes us out of the every day and leaves us deeply satisfied at the end.

But how do you find and craft a well-told personal story? How do you get the kind of feedback that will help you create an honest and powerful telling?

Working with a simple structure of trio storysharing, we will first use a personal fairytale to look for material hiding in the mythic retelling of our lives and then craft it into a real life tale ready to take away. We’ll work together to help each other discover, craft and polish our tales,

During our time together you will...

  •  Look at your life through a new lens, discovering additional material for personal storytelling
  •  Find a personal story to add to your repertoire
  •  Gain feedback from colleagues to help craft and polish your story
  • Work with the simple, potent process of trio storysharing, which can be applied in a wide variety of situations

This is a participatory and active session. Come prepared to work with your own personal story material and to be of support to others.

Who is this for?

Those who are ready to explore the stories life has given them and craft them into stories to share.
