Thai Lunch and Travelling Tales

“When is the next one? Perhaps I will get up in the open mic and share a story too.” 

These were the words of an enthusiastic attendee at the second ‘Lunch and Tales’ storytelling experience held on Sunday in a Thai restaurant in Manly. 

It was a wonderful gathering of people interested in good conversation over food and of course interesting and entertaining stories. The theme was ‘Travelling Tales!’  Everyone had a story to share at their tables whether it was from overseas trips or journeys in our local areas or across state borders.

Our featured storytellers Sue Alvarez and Christine Carlton, and open mic tellers Kiran, Sue, Monica and Rhonda completely held our attention and ….

'Participation Storytelling' and AGM

What an exciting and full day. It started with a most energetic and practical workshop on ‘Participation Storytelling’ led by Christine Carlton and Kiran Shah. We explored strategies for engaging and preparing an audience for participation before a story and had examples of spontaneously involving people throughout the story. Different approaches for various age groups were discussed and this was followed with examples of use of gesture, sounds, group actions, chants,repetition etc. 

We also engaged in co-created group  storytelling. Not only did this develop our spontaneous response skills, but also….

A fabulous Sunday afternoon filled with Korean Tales, one told with bilingual phrases for the audience to join in, one set in outback Australia and a live story that took 40 mins ( shortened from 5 hours)! It was wonderful to have Seung Ah Kim with us for her final performance in Sydney, accompanied by Jill Webster and Kiran Shah at the Friend in Hand pub in Glebe.

INTERNATIONAL STORYTELLERS SHOWCASE CONCERT- at Castlecrag This concert was offered in partnership with Gleneaon Steiner School. What a most enjoyable night! Five gifted storytellers taking us on a journey into the world of story through, cultural, tales, personal stories and folklore. 1 Korean, Seung Ah Kim, 3 Americans David Novak, Lyn Ford and Donna Washington and 1 Australian - Christine Carlton. There was a lovely mix of styles and stories that brought us to moments of deep reflection and bold laughter. We don’t often have the opportunity to enjoy such a treat!
